Art by Shelle Bailey
My work has been described as both mysterious and meditative, and having a high level of emotional connection to the subject. To me, these descriptions are accurate, as they are the exact reasons I feel inspired to paint. I focus mainly on naturescapes and landscapes that express a silent beauty, rarely if ever can the human presence be found in my work.
Working in an impressionist inspired technique, exclusively in oils on my own recipe of gesso, I seek to capture the fleeting moment of light and space that stir nostalgia and sense of Déjà vu.
I prefer to work en plein air-on the spot and in the moment. Often I will also work in the studio from memory of a scene caught in passing.
If those who view my work are able to connect to it emotionally with their own sense of familiarity to the subject, and gain a feeling of serenity or calm, I have been successful.
